This series explores how the context and presentation of a single item changes the meaning of an image. For this item I chose a hat and rendered the images in different styles.

Stone Dragon Turtle
Stupendemys lithosdraco
Text from image:
This species of freshwater turtle from the Pebas Mega-Wetland
appears to have evolved in an evolutionary arms race with the 15
meter long Purussaurus (Purassaurus hydrodraco) of the area. Fossil
records from some of the dried out areas indicate these species have
been evolving in rivalry for the past five to six million years and
that five million years ago, Stupendemys only reached a carapace
length of approximately 3 meters. This complex interaction and
pressure to defend themselves from Purussaurus, the abundance of
very large fish, and this turtle's ability to eat nearly anything
have combined to make it the largest species of turtle in the world.
This wetland used to cover much more of the South American
continent, but that its decline halted for an unknown reason. The
earliest known records from South American natives describe these
creatures as roughly the "Stone Dragons" and the Purussaurus as the
"Water Dragons." Ancient tribes refused to settle in the area within
a day's walk from the wetland, but seemed to have a coming of age
ceremony for members to observe the "dragons" for a day and return
having seen the world.
In modern times, laws from multiple South American countries make it
illegal to live around or in the wetlands except in one of the three
research outposts that study this area called "a look into Earth's
past."
Note: This is a fictional creature inspired by the idea of how
could dragons could have evolved. I looked at Stupendemys
geographicus, alligator snapping turtles, and ankylosaurus as
inspiration. In this fictional narrative, the Pebas Mega-Wetland
in South America never disappeared.

This is a custom font that I designed based on handwriting. It started as character drawings. I then converted it into a usable font file (Trentive.otf). It is designed to look good on sketchnotes and as a handwriting substitute.
This is a custom font that I designed based on gothic letters. It started as character drawings. I then converted it into a usable font file (FordoniaGothic.otf). It is designed to look good as a decorative initial capital letter or for a vintage look. Future work may involve designing a lowercase and numerals.
